Partner to Launch First Event for Concerts at Chambers Creek®:
Judy Collins with Tacoma Symphony Orchestra and Jonatha Brooke
Tacoma, WA – On August 9, 2008, the Broadway Center for the Performing Arts and Chambers Creek Foundation will partner to launch Concerts at Chambers Creek® as the opening celebration and first event of new outdoor concert venue, Central Meadow at Chambers Creek Properties in University Place, Washington. The opening celebration will feature Judy Collins with Tacoma Symphony Orchestra and Jonatha Brooke. Central Meadow will open at 4pm and the concert begins at 6pm.
The Concerts at Chambers Creek® landmark collaboration between the Broadway Center and Chambers Creek Foundation, serves as the only concert series to benefit environmental and arts education. All net proceeds from the program will benefit both causes.
Judy Collins has thrilled audiences worldwide with a unique blend of interpretative folksongs and contemporary themes. Her career has spanned more than 40 years. Collins is noted for her rendition of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" on her classic 1967 album, Wildflowers. "Both Sides Now" has since been entered into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Winning "Song of the Year" at the 1975 Grammy Awards show was Judy's version of "Send in the Clowns," a ballad written by Stephen Sondheim. Judy Collins continues to create music of hope and healing that lights up the world and speaks to the heart. Collins will perform with Tacoma’s only full-scale professional orchestra, Tacoma Symphony Orchestra.
Opening for Collins, Jonatha Brooke is a leading singer-songwriter in folk rock. Nora Guthrie, daughter of Woody Guthrie, invited Jonatha to peruse the Guthrie “archives” and the result is a wonderful album of new songs with never before heard words of Woody Guthrie. Billboard Magazine called Jonatha Brooke “one of the most gifted and unique artists of the decade”.
Chambers Creek Foundation is the charitable partner working with Pierce County to transform a reclaimed gravel pit into a magnificent regional treasure: the new Central Meadow at Chambers Creek Properties. As one of the region’s outstanding open spaces, the site serves as an unparalleled environmental living classroom. Eagles, hawks and other raptors soar overhead while occasional whales visibly breach in the water and sea lions can be heard calling from off shore. Patrons will enjoy spectacular views of the Puget Sound and the Olympics.
The Central Meadow at Chambers Creek Properties is located immediately adjacent to the world-class Chambers Bay Golf Course, home of the 2010 U.S. Amateur and the 2015 U.S. Open.
No street parking will be available for the event. Reserved parking must be purchased in advance with every transaction for General Admission tickets. Parking lots will be assigned at the time of your ticket purchase. Satellite parking lots at four nearby sites: Charles Wright Academy, Curtis High School, Curtis Junior High School and the New Tacoma Cemetery, with shuttle service to the concert venue.
A limited number of VIP tickets are available and include reserved seating on the lawn located directly in front of the stage. VIP tickets include complimentary premium parking, catered boxed lunch, beverages and access to the VIP Tent.
